Ex-Reading coach confident he can coach part-time United

NEW boss Nas Bashir says the Hayes and Yeading job is not a baptism of fire for him after the club announced that it was reverting to part-time.

Ex-Reading Academy coach Bashir takes on his first managerial role having been told that the club's brief flirtation with full-time football is over.

Bashir, his assistant Tristan Lewis, and director of football Tony O'Driscoll are therefore gearing up for a mass exodus of players, though letters have been sent out inviting them to pre-season training.

But Bashir, who guided the likes of Jem Karacan and Simon Church into the Reading first team, is aiming to nurture a new group of young talents using his contacts in the professional game.

And the 41-year-old, who had a brief stint at Yeading as a coach under Johnson Hippolyte, says last season's vintage will be staying only for the right reasons.

"I will be meeting the players in the next couple of weeks," he said.

"The players will make their decisions and some will be motivated by money. That is their prerogative and if they want to look short-term and go down two divisions for more money then that is up to them.

"I know the budget has been cut, but if players want to get better, progress and maybe move on to a higher level, then they should stay.

"I have a lot of contacts in the professional game and I will be using those contacts to get the players in that I need."

Bashir, who has pioneered his own FAB football academy since leaving Reading in 2009 and has a UEFA Pro Licence, rejects any notion that just avoiding relegation is his mission.

"I think if you send out that message, it is a negative message to everyone," he said. "We are going to finish as high as we possibly can.

"I feel that I can really get my teeth into this job. I have worked with good people in the past including Alan Pardew, Brendan Rodgers, Steve Coppell and Wally Downes.

"I have taken a lot from these guys. I was involved with helping a lot of boys at Reading into the first team.

"I had a massive influence on those players. Reading grew from League One to the Premier League and are now a good Championship side. I see this as a good opportunity for the club and myself to move onto the next level."

* HAYES and Yeading are holding two trial days at the club's base in Beaconsfield Road, Hayes, on Tuesday, June 28 and Thursday, June 30. Any interested players are asked to email their football CV to trials@handyutd.com before the closing date of 8pm on Sunday.

I Spy With My Little Eye Recycled | Reading Coach Online

Here’s a quick and easy twist on a game your kids already play that can help them work on their phonemic awareness . You are probably all too familiar with I Spy With My Little Eye, where your child guesses which object you see based on the color you tell them. For example, you may say, “I spy with my little eye something…yellow.” And your child will guess all the yellow things she sees until she chooses the banana you were spying.

Try it this way the next time you’re playing–”I spy with my little eye something that begins with the ‘b’ sound.” Now, instead of colors, your child with look for objects that begin with a sound. Recognizing the sound and matching it up with an object is a phonemic awareness exercise. Don’t be afraid to explore other sounds like the ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ sounds.

You can even make it a phonics game by saying, “I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter ‘B’.” This will require your child to match up the letter with the sound it makes.
