Boxing Odds: Alexander vs Matthssye and Undercard on HBO Boxing After Dark

Here are the latest odds for tonight's Boxing After Dark show on HBO, including one fight that is, for whatever reason, off-TV, while another fight, for whatever reason, is on TV. Bad Left Hook will have full live coverage tonight starting at 9:45 pm EDT.

Alexander vs Matthysse

Devon Alexander (21-1, 13 KO) has tight favored odds of -200 at 5Dimes and -250 at SBG Global. I sort of expected he might have been a bigger favorite from the oddsmakers, but apparently the general consensus is helping to speak, because this is pretty close and I think opinions are fairly well split out there among the fight picks I've seen. (Our staff picks will be up this afternoon, by the way.)

As for Argentina's Lucas Matthysse (28-1, 26 KO), he's an underdog to the tune of +170 on both lines. Many expect Matthysse could have trouble getting fair scorecards on Alexander's turf, as many believed happened to Andriy Kotelnik last August against Alexander.

Cloud vs Mack

Big odds for light heavyweight titleholder Tavoris Cloud (22-0, 18 KO) to win here, as -1200, -1200, and -1325 lines at Bodog, SBG Global and 5Dimes, respectively. He still has the reputation that he doesn't fight enough, in part because Don King only promotes a few shows a year, but this is his third fight since August, so that's a big improvement over once a year pre-King.

As for Yusaf Mack (29-3-2, 17 KO), his lines are +600, +750 and +870. He's still got some talent, but doesn't hold up well against power or pressure fighters, as he's proven in the past in losses to Alejandro Berrio, Librado Andrade and last year to Glen Johnson, who Cloud beat six months later.

Stiverne vs Austin

Just one line on the questionable heavyweight showcase, and it makes Bermane Stiverne (20-1-1, 19 KO) the favorite. The Haitian-born Canadian is -240 at 5Dimes, with veteran Ray Austin (28-5-4, 18 KO) at +200. I think most people who have seen Austin fight over the years figure that Stiverne is a serious favorite in this fight, but Austin didn't make it easy for Odlanier Solis in December, and Stiverne is still unproven.

Bundrage vs Powell II

These two fought way back in 2005, and it was a doozy:

Chances are this one doesn't last just 22 seconds. Bundrage (30-4, 18 KO) is fighting for the first time since demolishing Cory Spinks for the IBF junior middleweight belt last August, while Powell (26-2, 15 KO) is trying to pick up his first major title and his best win in years in a career that has been up and down.

Lucas Matthysse Lost? « Billy's Boxing Blog

I was going to wait until Monday morning to spout off about the victory by Devon Alexander on Saturday night but after numerous text messages and phone calls that all said Matthysse was robbed, I figured I would give my quick views.

If my math is correct the judge from Puerto Rico gave Devon 7 rounds (96-93). Is he trying to tell us Matthysse only won three rounds? And that’s with Alexander going down from a clean right hand once.

That’s hogwash.

Even Devon’s hometown crowd in St. Louis booed when the scores were read. It’s pretty clear to anyone that witnessed this fight that Alexander got a pure gift in St. Louis.

It’s really a shame for Matthysse was ripped off again. This is a fighter who brings everything into the ring and on Saturday night he brought way more than Devon. Go look at the punchstats, it wasn’t even close.
