Record fleet's wild ride round the island
Frenchman Lionel Lemonchois and his 50ft trimaran Prince de Bretagne were first to complete the 80th anniversary Round the Island race in just under three hours and 50 minutes. His was the first boat home of a record fleet of more than 1,900.

The trust spearheaded by Dame Ellen aims to raise £80,000 through the race to help 160 young people go sailing. Since JPMorgan became sponsors in 2007, £350,000 has been raised for good causes. The Island Sailing Club, race organisers, and other partners, aim to reach £500,000 by the end of this year.
Rod Nicholls, Island Sailing Club commodore, said: “The ethos of the race is that its one for everybody, amateurs and professionals, for all experience levels, those with none to those of Olympic standard. Its a unique race round the Isle of Wight with its tides and winds, a circumnavigation in which you never get two races the same.
