If asked to evacuateâ€-
June 1 sends shudders down the spine of nearly every person living along the Gulf of Mexico. Just the thought of Hurricane Season beginning brings up memories of the toppled trees and flooded homes from Hurricane Katrina for most St. Tammany residents. But, while the storm shattered many lives and destroyed even more homes, it taught those in south Louisiana one thing – be prepared. Before evacuating there are somethings that you need to take care of first. Designate an individual outside of the state to serve as a family point of contact. Make sure that all family members know who this person is and how to contact him/her. After a disaster or evacuation, all family members should make contact with the designated individual. Try choosing a certain time for everyone to check in. Secure your home before leaving, and if you own a travel trailer or RV and you plan to take it with you when you evacuate, make sure you evacuate before an evacuation order is given because privately owned trailers over 8’6”wide, 75’ total length, and 13’6” total height will not be permitted in evacuation traffic in either a voluntary or mandatory evacuation.Use the form below to post a brief comment to this story, or respond to other readers. RV Repair Manual
An RV is the combination of a house and car so when it comes to maintenance, you have all the issues of both components. For the most part, the ills of one wont affect the other but there are some exceptions such as wiring and power that connect from the engine to the amenities of the living area. Otherwise, working on the engine is just like a car with the various makes and models that change over the years. Because of this, a general RV repair manual contains information about how to fix things and is not specific to a particular model or make of RV such as a 1975 Airstream or a 1981 Fleetwood. The repair manuals reference the engines used, the plumbing and heating components, and the appliances.
BooksThe RV Repair & Maintenance Manual: Motorhomes, Trailers, Fifth-Wheels, Campers, etc. is an RV repair manual geared toward the do-it-yourselfer. The 400 page book, complete with photos and illustrations, covers topics such as:
Generators Hitches and towing Electrical, gas, and water systems Appliances Interior and exterior care and repair Heating and air conditioning Diesel engines BrakesInformation on how to fix a roof, door, or window is also included in this how- to guide.
The RV repair manual, The Complete Trailer Handbook, explains the basics of an RV, providing the foundation of necessary knowledge required to work on your own vehicle. It refers to how trailers are designed and how they work from the wheels to the wiring and has color photos to help guide you. Some of the information contained on these pages includes maintenance, accessories, building and rebuilding a trailer along with suspension and brake systems.
In RV Electrical Systems, the reader finds a wealth of knowledge pertaining to the troubleshooting, improvement, and repair of an RVs electrical components. The ten chapter manual starts by explaining, in the simplest of terms, electricity and the 12-volt DC system. The authors, Bill and Jan Moeller, go on to talk about the following components of the electrical system:
Battery Alternator Wiring Chargers and Converters Hook Ups Inverters and Generators Solar Power Alternating Circuits Monitoring Electrical SystemsAdditionally, the authors supply an index of where to find electrical RV parts and a list of other manuals they recommend reading.
Where to FindInformation on how to repair an RV can be found on different RV sites such as blogs or personal pages that talk about peoples experiences, mistakes, and solutions. Some RV sites provide articles on how to do repairs while others create and sell their own e-books.
