Rams linebacker wins $5.4 million lawsuit

ST. LOUIS, Missouri — David Vobora, a linebacker for the NFL's St. Louis Rams, will receive more than $5.4 million under an order issued by a federal judge against an American supplement manufacturer.

US District Judge Rodney Sippell ordered the Anti-Steroid Program LLC of Key Largo, Florida, to pay $2 million for damage to Vobora's reputation as part of his ruling.

Vobora sued the firm for what he said was a contaminated supplement that led to a positive doping test and a four-game NFL suspension for a violation of the league's anti-doping regulations.

Vobora had argued the Florida group intentionally misled him into using its "Ultimate Sports Spray" in June of 2009 without his knowing it contained a substance on the NFL's banned list, methyltestosterone.

The NFL, like most American professional team sports leagues, does not follow World Anti-Doping Agency procedures, instead enforcing its own doping rules and applying its own testing methods.
