Strangers Online Follows Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct in Theaters June 24
Following in the footsteps of “ Fatal Attraction ” and “ Basic Instinct ,” “ Strangers Online ” will take online obsessions to a new level when it opens in theaters this Friday, June 24th , in Los Angeles, and becomes available on DVD July 5, 2011 . This erotic thriller actually has less sex, but more exploration into the crazy things people will do to get attention on a web radio show. To get a behind-the-scenes view, I interviewed the Director/Writer, John Huckert, who described the story this way: “It’s murder, deception, intrigue and mental illness with a Film Noir approach focused on the Internet.” The original title was “Somebody’s Watching,” and in this film, all of the stars are being watched.
Haunted by his wife’s murder four years earlier in Seal Beach, CA, Noel Palomaria (Hollace Parker) takes calls from strangers as the host of a web radio show, “Strangers Online,” on KSIN in Los Angeles (one of the most dysfunctional cities for dating in the world.) You can see the callers online in pop-up windows that look like Skype, and it might remind you of Chatroulette (online video dating.) In a town obsessed by celebrity, Hollace becomes an obvious target for fatal attraction (similar to Michael Douglas in “Basic Instinct “and “Fatal Attraction”).
While Eva Frajko (“Cold Case,” “Murder She Wrote”) is Hollace’s girlfriend, Laura, this committed relationship doesn’t stop the crazies from going after her man. You’ll be surprised by the extreme manipulations of Karen, the obsessed intern , played by Tara Killian (“Ghost Whisperer,” “Without at Trace.”) And the love twists will leave audiences on edge, but we won’t spoil the fatal attraction scenes in this review, so you can experience the thrills and chills first-hand.
The anonymity and lack of physical contact online gives “Strangers Online” an extra edge.
